Bromley Festival 2026 — Summarised Syllabus

Singing / Vocal Classes

  • V1 Women’s Voices — One song (own choice among specified composers) (time limit ~7 mins).

  • V2 Men’s Voices — One song (own choice among same list) (time limit ~7 mins).

  • V3 Oratorio (incl. Passions) — One aria/recitative from sacred choral/oratorio repertoire (≤7 mins).

  • V4 Recital (Song) — Three contrasting songs (own choice) (≤12 mins).

  • V5 Operatic — One operatic aria (own choice) (≤7 mins).

  • V6 Light Opera — One number from light opera repertoire (≤6 mins).

  • V7 Musical — One number from a musical/film/popular song (≤6 mins).

  • V8 Ivor Novello Class — One song by Ivor Novello (≤6 mins).

Pianoforte

(Summaries of representative classes; there are many “Own Choice”, grade, recital, test-piece classes)

  • P1 Challenge Cup / P-class test — A specified set piece (time limit as in syllabus).

  • P2 / P3 / … — Each P-class: either a test piece (from syllabus list) or own choice (within set time).

  • Recital Piano Classes — Two or more contrasting pieces (own choice) (time limits vary).

  • Own Choice Piano Classes — One piece of competitor’s choice (subject to time limits per age/grade).

  • Duet / Trio Piano Classes — Two or more performers, own choice ensemble pieces (within time limit).

Woodwind, Brass & Ensembles

  • W / WE classes — Solo woodwind/brass pieces (own choice or test-piece) within time limits.

  • Wind / Brass Ensembles — 3+ instruments in ensemble, classical or mixed repertoire (within time limit).

Classical Guitar & Ukulele

  • G classes (e.g. G3, G4, …) — Solo guitar or ukulele pieces (own choice or test piece) with specified time limits.

Harp

  • H classes (H11, H12, H13, etc.) — Harp solo works (own choice or set pieces) or harp ensemble (within time).

Speech & Drama

  • D / Speech classes — Monologues, poems, public speaking, drama pieces (own choice or curriculum list) with age/grade-based time limits.

  • Musical Theatre / Performance / Recitation — Performance combining speech, acting, songs or movement (within time limits).
