Morning (9am - 1pm) Song Writing Workshop. Become lyricists for the day, exploring how words can be turned into powerful, playful, and meaningful songs. Through fun, interactive activities, children will be guided through the process of writing their very own song lyrics — from brainstorming ideas and storytelling, to creating verses and choruses that express their thoughts and feelings. This is a perfect introduction to songwriting, designed to inspire self-expression and spark a lifelong love of music and creative writing.
Lunch (1pm-2pm)
Afternoon (2-5pm) Song Recording and Arts & Crafts
Thursday:
Morning (9am - 1pm) Film Music Workshop Day 1 (We recommend you attend Day 2 on Friday). Day 1, we dive into the magical role music plays in movies. Children will watch short clips and trailers with and without music, discovering how sound shapes mood, emotion, and drama. They’ll explore the building blocks of film music — tension, excitement, sadness, joy — and experiment with instruments, voices, and body percussion to create their own soundscapes.
Using guided discussion and creative play, they’ll begin crafting their own mini film stories or characters to align with a chosen animation, thinking about what kind of music each scene needs. By the end of the day, each group will have the foundations of their very own short film score.
Lunch (1pm-2pm)
Afternoon (2-5pm) Trip to Endurance Steel Orchestra for Steel Pans Workshop. Travel schedule here.
Friday:
Morning (9am - 1pm) Film Music Workshop Day 2 (We recommend you attend Day 1 on Thursday). Day 2 is all about bringing ideas to life! Children will develop and rehearse their film music ideas along to a set animation, choosing melodies, rhythms, and sounds that match the action and emotions of their stories. They'll be introduced to basic composing techniques suitable for their age, including layering sound, building dynamics, and using motifs for characters or scenes.
The group’s creation will be recorded and sent to all participants guardians/carers.
Lunch (1pm-2pm)
Afternoon (2-5pm) YMS Cinema Screening at Trinity. To wrap up a creative film music session, we will wind down the day with an in-house cinema screening (certificate U) and arts and crafts.
